Jen-Tien Wung, MD.
DR JEN-TIEN WUNG est professeur de pédiatrie au centre médical de l’Université Columbia, New York. Il a reçu son diplôme de médecine au Taipei Medical College. Il est le néonatologiste responsable des soins respiratoires à l’unité des soins intensifs néonatals (USIN) de Columbia depuis 1974. Il est un pionnier dans la thérapie avec CPAP à bulles. En fait, Dr. Wung dirige la populaire conférence annuelle “Respiratory Care of the Newborn - A Practical Approach” au collège médical de l’Université Columbia depuis 1988. L’expertise de Dr. Wung inclue aussi la ventilation mécanique délicate et en « Neurally Adjusted Ventilatory Assist » (NAVA), la prise en charge des enfants avec hypertension pulmonaire persistante du nouveau-né (PPHN) en utilisant l’Iloprost pour ceux qui ne répondent pas au monoxyde d’azote, le traitement des enfants avec hernie diaphragmatique congénitale (HDC), l’utilisation du masque laryngé pour les enfants avec syndrome de Pierre Robin et la technique de ventilation unipulmonaire chez le nouveau-né. Il a donné plus de 200 conférences sur les soins respiratoires néonatals dans plus de 20 pays. Il est aussi le récipiendaire de nombreux prix. En 2013, il a été honoré dans le « Neonatology Hall of Fame » qui a été établi pour honorer les individus remarquables dont les efforts ont eu un impact positif sur les soins critiques des nouveau-nés.
DR JEN-TIEN WUNG is Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University Medical Center, New York. He received his medical degree from Taipei Medical College. He is a Neonatologist and has directed Respiratory Care at the Columbia NICU since 1974. He is a pioneer in Bubble Nasal CPAP therapy. In fact, Dr. Wung has directed the well-attended annual conference on “Respiratory Care of the Newborn - A Practical Approach” at Columbia University Medical Center since 1988. Dr. Wung’s major expertise also include gentler and kinder mechanical ventilation and Neurally Adjusted Ventilatory Assist (NAVA), management of infants with Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn (PPHN) using continuous nebulization of Iloprost for PPHN unresponsive to Inhaled Nitric Oxide, treatment of infants with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH), laryngeal mask airway for infant with Pierre Robin sequence, and one-lung ventilation technique in neonates. He has delivered more than 200 lectures on Neonatal Respiratory Care in more than 20 countries. He is also the recipient of several awards. In 2013, Dr. Wung was honored in the “Neonatology Hall of Fame,” which was established to honor remarkable individuals whose efforts have positively impacted the care of critically ill neonates.

DR HANY ALY a gradué de la Faculté des Sciences de l’Université Ain Shams au Caire, en Egypte en 1981. Il a obtenu son diplôme de médecine et chirurgie de l’École de Médecine de l’Université Ain Shams au Caire, en Egypte en 1986. Il a complété sa résidence à l’Hôpital universitaire Hahnemann à Philadelphie et sa formation postdoctorale en médecine néonatale et périnatale au Collège des Médecins et Chirurgiens de l’Université Columbia. Il a fait une maîtrise en sciences de la santé avec une concentration en qualité des soins à l’École de Médecine et de Sciences de la santé à l’Université George Washington en 2016. Il est le fondateur et directeur du programme de fellowship en neurologie néonatale et développement cérébral de l’Université George Washington. Il est le fondateur et éditeur-en-chef du journal « Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine ». Il est professeur de pédiatrie au Collège Lerner de médecine de l’Université Case Western Reserve. Il est présentement directeur du département de Néonatologie à l’Hôpital pour enfants de la Clinique Cleveland. Il a un intérêt spécial en support respiratoire non-invasif pour les enfants prématurés afin de réduire l’incidence de maladie pulmonaire chronique ainsi qu’en neurologie néonatale — monitoring cérébral et nouvelles modalités de protection cérébrale pour les nouveau-nés asphyxiés.
DR HANY ALY graduated from Ain Shams University Faculty of Science Cairo, Egypt in1981. He earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Ain Shams University School of Medicine in Cairo, Egypt in 1986. He completed his Residency at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia and Postdoctoral Clinical Fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons. He completed a Master of Science in Health Science with a concentration in Health Care Quality at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in 2016. He is the founder and Director of the Neonatal Neurology and Brain Development Fellowship Program at George Washington University. He founded and is the Editor-in-chief of the Journal of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. He is a Professor of Pediatrics at Case Western Reserve University, Lerner’s College of Medicine. He is currently, Chair of the Department of Neonatology at Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital. He has a special interest in Non-invasive Respiratory support for premature babies to reduce the incidence of chronic lung disease, Neonatal Neurology — brain monitoring and novel modalities for brain protection in babies with asphyxia.
Caio Barbosa de Oliveira, MD
Dr CAIO BARBOSA DE OLIVEIRA a obtenu son diplôme de médecine et a complété sa formation en pédiatrie à São Paulo, au Brésil. Il a entrepris une surspécialisation en médecine néonatale et périnatale à l’Université McGill et il complète présentement sa deuxième année de formation.
Dr CAIO BARBOSA DE OLIVEIRA completed his medical degree and Pediatric Residency Training in São Paulo, Brazil. He is now sub-specializing in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at McGill University and is currently completing his second year of fellowship.
Guilherme Sant'Anna, MD.
DR GUILHERME SANT’ANNA est professeur agrégé dans le Département de Pédiatrie à l’Université McGill et néonatologiste au Centre universitaire de santé McGill (CUSM). Il a reçu son MD au Brésil et a complété sa formation en clinique et en recherche à McGill. Dr. Sant’Anna a obtenu son PhD en Physiologie en 2002. Par la suite, il a travaillé comme professeur associé à l’Université McMaster de 2005 à 2009, puis est finalement retourné à McGill pour poursuivre une carrière de recherche. Ses intérêts portent sur la physiologie néonatale (respiration et thermorégulation) et la ventilation invasive et noninvasive. Il étudie le rôle de la variabilité du rythme cardiaque et respiratoire dans la prédiction de l’échec d’extubation chez le grand prématuré et les différences de patrons cardiorespiratoires immédiatement après l’extubation alors que les bébés sont sur CPAP nasal, ventilation non-invasive et lunettes nasales à haut débit. Il est aussi impliqué dans la recherche sur les enfants ayant souffert d’un événement hypoxique-ischémique avec encéphalopathie, plus particulièrement ceux avec encéphalopathie hypoxique-ischémique légère. Il a développé plusieurs collaborations de recherche à l’échelle nationale et internationale.
DR GUILHERME SANT’ANNA is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at McGill University and a staff Neonatologist at the Montreal Children’s Hospital - McGill University Health Center (MUHC). He received his MD from Brazil and completed his clinical and research training at McGill University. Dr. Sant’Anna obtained his PhD in Physiology in 2002. After that, he worked as an Associated Professor at McMaster University from 2005 to 2009 when he finally returned to McGill to purse a clinical research career. His research interests are in Neonatal Physiology (respiratory and thermoregulation) and invasive and non-invasive ventilation. He is actually investigating the role of heart rate and respiratory variability in the prediction of extubation failure in extreme preterm infants and differences in cardiorespiratory patterns immediately after extubation while babies are on nasal CPAP, non-invasive ventilation or high flow nasal cannula therapy. He is also involved in research with infants that suffered from hypoxicischemic events and have evidence of encephalopathy. His major interests in this field are infants with mild Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE). He has also developed several research collaborations at national and international levels.
Wissam Shalish, MD.
DR WISSAM SHALISH a gradué de la Faculté de Médecine à McGill et a complété sa formation en médecine néonatale-périnatale à l’Hôpital Sick Kids à Toronto. Il est présentement médecin traitant dans la division de Néonatologie à l’Hôpital de Montréal pour enfants et poursuit également un doctorat en médecine expérimentale à l’Université McGill. Sa recherche se concentre sur l’usage des signaux biomédicaux pour mieux comprendre et pour améliorer différents aspects des soins respiratoires chez l’enfant prématuré. Ceux ci incluent le sevrage de la ventilation mécanique, la provision de support respiratoire non-invasif et le contrôle de la respiration.
DR WISSAM SHALISH graduated from medical school at McGill University and completed his Fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. He is currently a staff Neonatologist at the Montreal Children’s Hospital - McGill University Health Center (MUHC) and is also pursuing a PhD in Experimental Medicine at McGill University. His research focuses on using biomedical signals for better understanding and improving various aspects of respiratory care in preterm infants, including weaning from mechanical ventilation, non-invasive respiratory support provision and respiratory control of breathing.
François Olivier
DR FRANÇOIS OLIVIER est néonatalogiste et professeur assistant au Département de pédiatrie du Centre universitaire de santé McGill. Il a obtenu un diplôme d’étude en médecine de l’Université Laval en 2010. Il a complété une résidence en pédiatrie en 2014, ainsi qu’un fellowship en médecine néonatale et périnatale en 2015. Dr Olivier a complété un programme de clinicien chercheur en 2016 ainsi qu’une maîtrise en épidémiologie clinique en 2017 à l’Université Laval. Le sujet principal de sa recherche était l’administration de surfactant au moyen de méthode minimalement invasive chez les nouveau-nés peu prématurés. Ayant un intérêt pour l’amélioration de la qualité, Dr Olivier a complété une certification «Black Belt» du programme Lean Six Sigma en 2017. Dr Olivier est, depuis 2019, le directeur médical de l’équipe de transport néonatal de l’Hôpital de Montréal pour enfants.
DR FRANÇOIS OLIVIER is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at McGill University and a staff Neonatologist at the Montreal Children’s Hospital - McGill University Health Center (MUHC). Dr. Olivier graduated from medical school at Laval University in 2010. He completed a Pediatric Residency in 2014 and a Fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine in 2015 at Laval University. He also completed a Clinical Scientist residency in 2016 and an MSc degree in Clinical Epidemiology at Laval University in 2017. The focus on his research was on non-invasive method for surfactant administration in moderate and late preterm infants. He is interested in quality improvement and he completed a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification in 2017. Since 2019, Dr. Olivier is the Medical Director of the Neonatal Transport Team at the Montreal Children’s Hospital.
Gabriel Altit, MD.
DR GABRIEL ALTIT est un professeur adjoint au Département de Pédiatrie de l’Université McGill, un néonatalogiste à l’Hôpital de Montréal pour enfants du CUSM et un chercheur clinicien de l’Institut de recherche du CUSM. Après avoir complété sa formation en médecine à l’Université McGill, il a fait une résidence en pédiatrie et en néonatalogie à l’Université de Montréal–CHU Sainte-Justine. Puis il a poursuivi sa formation en échocardiographie et en dysplasie bronchopulmonaire (DBP) à l’hôpital de Montréal pour enfants (Université McGill). Par la suite, il a fait un post-doctorat en recherche au laboratoire d’échographie cardiaque du Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital à l’Université Stanford où il a étudié les populations avec HDC, hypertension pulmonaire et DBP, cardiopathies congénitales et encéphalopathie hypoxique-ischémique avec des techniques avancées d’analyse échographique. Il complète présentement une maîtrise en épidémiologie et biostatistiques à l’Université McGill. Sa recherche porte sur la maladie vasculaire pulmonaire du grand prématuré avec DBP et la fonction cardiaque chez les patients avec HDC et cardiopathie congénitale. Il a un intérêt particulier pour les marqueurs néonatals précoces ayant un impact à long terme.
DR GABRIEL ALTIT is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at McGill University, a staff Neonatologist at the Montreal Children’s Hospital - McGill University Health Center (MUHC) and a Clinician Scientist at the MUHC Research Institute. After completing medical school at McGill University, he did his Pediatric Residency and Fellowship in Neonatology at Université de Montréal – CHU Sainte-Justine. He then pursued his training at McGill University – Montreal Children’s Hospital doing a post-doctoral year in Echocardiography and Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD). Following that, he did a post-doctoral year in research at the Echocardiography Laboratory of the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford University studying patients with CDH, pulmonary hypertension and BPD, congenital heart defects and Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy using advanced echocardiography techniques. He is currently completing an MSc in Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at McGill University. His research focus is on patients with Pulmonary Vascular Disease and BPD, cardiac function in CDH, and congenital cardiac defects. He has a particular interest in early neonatal markers of long-term outcomes.
Aurore Côté , MD.
DR AURORE CÔTÉ est pneumologue-pédiatre à l’Hôpital de Montréal pour enfants et professeur agrégé de pédiatrie à l’Université McGill. Elle a un intérêt majeur concernant les troubles du contrôle respiratoire et l’oxygénation. Elle a développé un réseau de télémédecine à travers la province et reçoit des centaines de tracés cardiorespiratoires et de l’oxygénation chaque année pour interprétation et discussion. Elle est membre d’un groupe international qui s’intéresse aux valeurs normales des paramètres respiratoires et de l’oxygénation chez le nouveau-né et le nourrisson. DR AURORE CÔTÉ is a Pediatric Pulmonologist at the Montreal Children’s Hospital and an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at McGill University. One of her major interests is in control of breathing and oxygenation. She has built a telemedicine network throughout the province and receives hundreds of cardiorespiratory and oxygenation tracings for interpretation and discussion every year. She is a member of an International Network of Physicians and Researchers on the establishment of normative respiratory and oxygenation data for neonate and infant recordings. She has also developed an evaluation program to assess the fitness to travel by airplane for prematurely born infants.
Anne Marie Canakis , MD.
DR ANNE MARIE CANAKIS est professeur agrégé dans le Service de médecine respiratoire dans le Département de Pédiatrie à l’Hôpital de Montréal pour enfants, CUSM. Elle a obtenu son baccalauréat en sciences (Physiologie) à l’Université McGill en 1991. Elle a gradué de l’École de Médecine de l’Université McGill en 1995. Elle a complété sa formation en pédiatrie en 1998 à l’Université McGill. Elle a entrepris un fellowship en médecine pulmonaire à l’Hôpital Sick Kids de l’Université de Toronto en 2001 et à l’Hôpital de Montréal pour enfants de l’Université McGill en 2002. Elle est Directrice de la clinique de DBP et oxygène à domicile et Directrice du programme de prophylaxie pour le virus respiratoire syncytial, coordonnatrice de stage en médecine respiratoire et vice-présidente du comité d’examen du Collège Royal des Médecins et Chirurgiens du Canada.
DR ANNE MARIE CANAKIS is Assistant Professor in the Division of Respiratory Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, McGill University Health Center. She obtained her Bachelor of Science (Physiology) at McGill University in 1991. She graduated from Medical School at McGill University in 1995. She completed her training in Pediatrics in 1998 at McGill University. She undertook a Fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine at University of Toronto Hospital for Sick Children in 2001 and at McGill University, Montreal Children’s Hospital in 2002. She is the Director of the Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia/Home Oxygen Clinic and Director of RSV prophylaxis program, Respiratory Medicine Rotation Coordinator, and Vice Chair of the Pediatric Respirology Examination Board of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
